Chandelier Height Guide for Living Rooms, Dining Tables, and Staircases

Chandelier height is one of those details that makes a room feel “finished.” Too low and it blocks views; too high and it looks lost. Below are practical guidelines we use for common UAE layouts.

Dining table height (most common question)

  • Start with 75–90 cm between the table surface and the bottom of the chandelier.
  • If the chandelier is very wide, keep slightly higher so guests can see each other comfortably.

Living rooms (open area)

For living rooms without a central table underneath, the main goal is safe clearance. A good starting point is keeping the bottom of the fixture at least 210–240 cm from the finished floor, depending on ceiling height and traffic flow.

Foyers and double-height entrances

In double-height areas, we aim for balance: the chandelier should visually “sit” in the vertical space. A common approach is hanging the fixture so it aligns around the upper third of the space while maintaining safe clearance at the lower level.

Staircases

Staircase chandeliers should be checked from multiple points: lower landing, mid-flight, and upper landing. We measure to ensure there’s no head-height risk and that the fixture doesn’t interfere with railing lines.

Final tip: mock the height before final tightening

Before you fully secure the canopy, temporarily hang the chandelier and step back with the room lights on. Small height changes (even 10–15 cm) can make a big difference.
